The Malta School Games torch relay was officially launched from the Ministry for Education, marking the beginning of a nationwide celebration of sport, unity, and school spirit. The torch was handed to students from San Gorg Preca College by the Minister for Education, Hon. Clifton Grima, who inaugurated the relay. The students then began their symbolic walk toward Valletta, accompanied by Director General Mr. Jude Zammit, Permanent Secretary Mr. Matthew Vella, Principal Permanent Secretary Mr. Tony Sultana, and Minister Hon. Clifton Grima
Upon reaching the Triton Fountain, they were joined by primary students from the same college, creating a vibrant, inter-level procession that continued toward Floriana Primary School. This moment marked the first handover in a long chain of movement that took the torch across every college in Malta. Travelling from school to school, the torch connected students within the same college and then one college to the next, forming a continuous relay that celebrated collaboration, unity, and shared values.
The journey concluded at St Margaret College, where Wizu, the Malta School Games mascot, also launched on the day, was waiting to welcome the torch in a festive finale. Throughout its travels, the torch visited hundreds of students across Malta, carrying with it the values of teamwork, perseverance, respect, and sportsmanship. Schools eagerly awaited its arrival, organising activities and celebrations that showcased their enthusiasm. The relay featured a variety of modes of transportation, including sailing boats, bicycles, regatta boats, and even school bands, each adding a unique and creative element to the experience.
The 2025 Malta School Games torch relay not only united schools across the island but also highlighted the vibrant energy and spirit of Malta’s young athletes, setting an inspiring tone for the Games.
